I looked for a way to improve ignition when using Pyrodex and Blackhorn209 in my sidelock Muzzleloader. (Kentucky style from Traditions.) I found several sources so I ordered 3 different brands including these. I also found that the hammer nose did not exactly fit the nipple, nor would it fit the cap. But, I was told by the gunsmith at Traditions to use a Dremel tool and grind a tiny bit out of the nose of the hammer. I did and it only took a few seconds to grind enough to fit the nipple and cap. I also made sure the sidelock and tang screws were all tight. That alone snugged everything up in perfect alignment with the nipple and cap. One more thing I noticed, the Traditions nipples have a flash hole much larger than the other brand nipples. I used a #57 jobber drill bit to drill out the flash hole. Now the other brands more nearly resemble the Traditions nipple. So far I have only fired the rifle using Select and Triple 7. I was using the unimproved nipples and had to prime the bolster to get a good ignition. I will edit to inform readers about performance after Wednesday. 7/29/15. If I need to remove some stars...I will edit the review.
