    How Workwear Saves Your Skin

Work can be a dangerous place and safety on the job should always be a number one concern. Here is what you need to know about what injuries are most common on the job and how you can prevent them:

    Common Workplace Injuries

No matter where you work or what you do there is a chance of injury on the job. Recent statistics show that nearly half of all workplace related injuries are due to one of four causes: overexertion, falling, tripping or slipping without falling and violence. Other areas of concern include: walking into things (seriously, stay focused), falling objects, machine entanglement and repetitive motion injuries such as writing articles about how workwear saves your skin. Every day people are hurting their backs, falling down, slipping and being physically attacked. If you don’t want to be counted in that group you need to make sure you’re following all safety guidelines at your work as well as suiting up with the proper gear.

    Gear Up and Protect Yourself

Most workplace accidents happen because someone wasn’t following the rules or wasn’t paying attention (walking into things? Really!?). The first thing you should be doing to make your surroundings safe is arming yourself with knowledge. Get to know the proper procedures and safety rules for your job site. Read up on company rules and check out any training videos they may have. Many accidents happen after workers begin to settle in and become complacent with their surroundings.

Overexertion accounts for over twenty five percent of workplace injuries, with many of those being injured hurting their backs. You might feel like super hero wearing your tough-as-nails workwear shirt, but you need to know your own physical limitations and don’t try to lift that pallet of concrete mix all by yourself, and if you can lift it, be sure to always lift with your legs.

Falling is both embarrassing and hurts. Get yourself some nice workwear boots that keep you firmly planted so you can avoid looking like your twelve year old self trying out ice skating for the first time. Get boots or shoes that fit you correctly, are comfortable and resist slipping. Find out if you need to be wearing safety toe shoes or if soft toes will work for the job; speaking from experience now is the time to figure that out, not after you’ve had a full pallet of mayonnaise dropped on your foot.

Workwear might not be able to help you from walking into things if that’s your problem, and might actually account for some people walking into things while checking themselves out. And you won’t be able to help it if everyone wants to fight you because your workwear jacket makes you look like the toughest son-of-a-gun on the job site. Get yourself interested in safety at work and be sure you’re wearing clothes that work as hard as you do.
