This stuff is incredible. The coffee they use is top-notch in quality and the little Pocket PourOver device lets me have GREAT coffee when I'm out in the field. Only takes about two minutes. Sometimes I throw an extra filter into a larger canteen and brew one all the way to the top. The coffee just gets stronger and I get more of it.
i love the light roast. and while the handles are little narrow, it's great to have on hand for fishing trips or just trips in general where you don't have time to go buy beans your first day and you just want a cup of coffee as soon as you wake up.
I first found out about these online and even got one of their vacuum-insulated Hydro Flasks (see picture). I'm an avid hiker and love to have a cup of joe on the trail while I enjoy the views. These are perfect for that. I just bring some hot water in another thermos and brew. Takes maybe 3 minutes or so, and it definitely helps to make sure your water is as hot as possible. When I finish brewing, I put the filter back in the pouch, then back into my pack. No mess, and I get a great cup of coffee...I would even say it's better than the coffee at the cafes I go to!
I've been drinking instant coffee for a long time, which has been just alright. But I'm so glad i found these little pocket packs. The coffee is really strong..exactly what I need when I'm out on my trips.
usually use a press. this cuts out a lot of steps in the brewing process and has less clean up than a press. time is about the same but didnt have to deal with messy coffee grounds. worth a shot if you haven't tried it. I get the time piece, but hard to have good coffee without at least some time.
At first, I was a little skeptical about this since it's hard to believe that you can make really good coffee with this little filter. After testing it both at home and on a recent trip to the Rocky Mountains, I can honestly say that the coffee in this thing is top notch. It doesn't taste water downed at all and it sure beats the instant coffee packs I've been using, AND it makes a full 8oz (I actually brewed 12oz).
It does take some time and a little bit of effort, but that's to be expected with any kind of pour over coffee. It's definitely worth the wait. I found that it really helps to bring your water to a boil so that it's hot enough. Otherwise, it will take longer.
At first I wasn't sure how good this was going to be, but I'll also admit that after figuring out how to brew it it was pretty darn good coffee, much better than expected. I usually go on backpacking with a press and coffee grounds, the big plus side is this cut out a lot of steps and was easy on the pack. I'd give it a 5 if it brewed a bit more, but to get you up and out it was solid.
I bought these for hiking and decided to try one at work before I used them out in the desert. I'm glad I did as I would have been very disappointed. The coffee isn't ground-it's more like it's pulverized dust. When you pour the water over the filter it takes almost 20 minutes to get a small single cup. The coffee turns to mud after the first pour and slows the drip process down to almost nothing.
I got a full set of ten of each roast as a Christmas gift. They seemed like a neat idea at first. The first time I used one I found them to be a huge pain. The filter is the size of a shot cup and it takes forever to pour and filter water you have already heated up into such a small filter. A percolator is much faster as is a Jet Boil with a coffee press. The coffee is just "ok" and I much prefer many instant coffee packets especially at less than half the price of these KUJU ones. There is also the packability of these. For the space of one of these you could have packed 8 instant coffee packs. Once used, you also have a messy wet coffee filter to pack out. Instant coffee packets are much cleaner. If you don't want instant coffee then stick with a percolator or jet boil. You'll get better tasting coffee for cheaper and spend less time trying to pour water into a tiny filter hole.
