I bought this rod mainly for drop shots and lighter set ups. The quality if the rod was top notch and was actually better than other brands at this price point. The reel seat/grip felt comfortable and the cork feels high quality. Since this is a "bass" series rod, I expected the power and action to be accurate and on par with other brands. The action was supposed to be extra fast, but it was more like moderate fast with very little backbone. The rod was bent so far down the blank while reeling in a 2-3 pound smallmouth that I was worried the rod was going to break. I decided this would be a good trout rod, so I was going to keep it, except it had a major flaw, in my opinion. The hook keeper is placed above the grip and on the bottom of the blank. All of my other spinning rods have the hook keeper on the side or on the top of the blank. I found that on a few forward casts and on almost every backhand cast, my line was getting caught on the keeper. I will concede that this could also be in part to my style of casting or the reel I paired it with, but it was enough of a problem to decide this rod wasn't for me. As usual, Sportsmans consumer service was outstanding. I was able to exchange the rod for a different brand with no hassle.
