Excellent inexpensive downrigger for trout or kokanees trolling using an open 12' to 14' aluminum fishing boat. You'll need a piece of 1" x 3" wood, about 12" long to "clamp" against the side of your aluminum boat. When you open the downrigger package, you'll find that the stainless cable doesnot have the terminal gear attached to it. There's the metal clasp that you hook your cannon ball weight onto AND 1 small piece of intricate plastic that the stainless steel cable must thread into, through, out of, and then this little piece of plastic snaps shut. The enclosed directions are horrible. (I'm a retired remodel carpenter, good with my hands, figuring out how things go together.) MY ADVICE: if you're going to purchase this, pay for it and then go back to the Fishing Dept counter, ask the counter help to open the package and install the terminal end gear onto the cable for you. That will save you about an hour of frustrating time at home attempting to follow unclear assembly directions!
