Buck 119 Special Knives - This classic large hunting knife has been a super seller going back some 47 years. Hoyt and Al Buck used to build them by hand in their two-man shop. Today, this larger hunting knife with a large clip blade for detail work, piercing and cutting in tight places for added control, is as popular as ever. The best known and the most popular of all of our knives the 119 Special® has been our best selling fixed blade knife for over fifty years. Hoyt Buck's first knife, made from a worn-out file blade in 1902, was a fixed blade, and for many years, all Buck knives were fixed blade knives. Now, over one hundred years later, Buck Knives continues to offer a comprehensive line of fixed-blade knives, ideal for use at work and in the field. The Special is available in two different models to fit your taste. The black phenolic version has a polished metal bolster and guard.

  • 6in 420HC stainless steel blade
  • Full tang fixed blade
  • Black phenolic handle
  • Black leather sheath for the phenolic model
  • Made in the U.S.A.

How can an ideal knife be improved? Buck did it by offering handles, pommels & hand guards in other attractive, functional materials. The leather sheath is protective & good quality leather, but the belt loop really needs widening. The 119 is used in all sorts of environments which means its sheath would be as well. I suggest Buck offer one of kydex rather than merely providing a thin, plastic liner in the present leather sheath. I realise it's a classic -- a most deserved title -- but having the option of a well-designed, ambidextrous, kydex sheath would be ideal for a knife of the same calibre. Also, thanks for offering a left-handed, leather sheath for us southpaws!

I found my first buck knife in an antique store. It was a 119. The blade is beautiful and the old sheath was durable, thick, and stiff. More recently I bought the 75th anniversary 119 for my self and my daughter. The knife was as amazing as my first one, but the sheath was absolutely disappointing. After just one hike, the loop for the belt was in a permanent twisted state. A friend of mine bought the same knife and after a few hiking trips the belt loop pulled right off the sheath. If I could find one of those older 119 sheaths, I would be happy to pay dearly for it. Simply put, I'm really unhappy with the sheath.

I've had my 119 since 2007. It's never let me down and it's always sharp. When I think about getting a new knife I know that there is only one worth having.

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

I bought my first one in 1990. I use this knife for hunting. It has never let me down whatever I have asked from it. Fact is, I liked it so much I bought a second one in Dec. 2000. Great knife and looks good. Thanks to those at Buck for making this knife!

Buck for the win.

By

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

I think the fact that the 119 has been around 75 years speaks volumes to the quality of this knife. The steel is hard enough for tough jobs and soft enough to sharpen. The handle fits my hands well and gives me confidence for wet work. Good balance and the look is a classic. Lord willing I'll always have a Buck knife within reach.

One of the best made and balanced knives I have.

By

from Hopewell, Virginia

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

I bought the 75th anniversity model 119 Special as a companion knife to my pre 1980 119. The new knife is one of the best balanced knives I now own, and exhibits some of the best workmanship I have seen. All of the grinds, (working edge, false edge, choil, etc.) are flawless. I am looking forward to using this knife this hunting season.
