This really is a great value, especially when you take into consideration the Vortex warranty. For this class of scope it is bright, clear and holds its zero really well on my 30-06. I love that you can see where you are at on the zoom from behind the scope (like you were looking through it) rather than having to look on top of the scope to see the numbers. You can get a feel for this in my included photos. It just makes more sense to build it that way and works really well. Everything about the scope feels tight and solid. Being that it's a 50mm objective it sits a little higher than I'm used to but that's part of the trade off for a bright scope and I can and have used this out to 400+ yards at 1/2 hr. after sunset with no problems. That's the brightness I need in my big game rifles so this works well for me. You can see from my photos that it's seen some use and abuse but I've yet to have a problem and even if I did I know I could count on Vortex to make it right. I'm very satisfied with my purchase!

Here is the all the bad parts to this scope-
Eye relief on max power is less than 2 inches. Even on low power, the eye relief is under 3 inches. If you have butler creek scope caps, the little tab that opens the eye piece will bite you on the nose. The edge clarity is horrible and you will need the sun shade when looking sunward. Maximum elevation adjustment was right at 58 MOA, not the advertised 65 MOA- The same as most Leupold 1 inch scope tubes (even though the Vortex is a 30mm tube). The adjustments are mushy and be careful not to pull up on the caps- a nice feature to zero the turret, but easy to mess up in the field.
Now for the worst part. When hunting this past Fall, the zero shifted over 2 feet at 100 yards. It took many shots to figure this out in the field. All this and the scope had not been subjected to excessive shock. After removing the scope and centering the crosshairs using a mirror, I flipped the scope over and gave it a gentle tap on the carpet. I then checked the zero in the mirror to see the crosshairs appearing to have shifted 1/2 inch in the scope. By reversing this procedure, the crosshairs returned to zero. So each time I had fired the gun, the crosshairs had the ability to shake all over.
Now the good:
The power adjustment knob is smooth and the power setting easy to see when behind the scope. The tube seems solid and rugged and has ample room for mounting on most set ups. The BDC reticle is simple and the subtensions easy to find on the website to use for your own calculations. Their customer service is great and they were willing to repair it. But in the end, customer service can't give me back a hunt you have draw in a lottery. For the price, I would go with a Leupold, but since I had been given a Swarovski, I replaced it with that and have no complaints except the cost to buy another for my next rifle! Perhaps I will give Vortex another try, but until then, my confidence in this scope is shattered.

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper Rifle Scope:

I love my Viper scope it's as clear as many of the so called high end scopes. Side PA is a great change One does not have to un shoulder the rifle to set it. The Vortex VIP Warranty is the Best. Period!!

I now have 2 scopes

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper Rifle Scope:

Great for low recoil like .204R, .22-.250, .243 and such because short eye relief.

Would recommend extension rings or bases for mounting on long action rifles and mounting this scope on a long action Ruger M77 would involve 30mm extension front ring.

Like the optics - bright clear at max power with sharp defined edges of field. Adjustments are easy to make without tools - don't need Allen wrenches for tiny Allen screws. Just pull out turn and push back.

I have them set for 70 grain Berger VLD .22-.250 and 87 Hornady VMax zeroed at 200 and 2nd bar down hits at 300 for both.

I can look through these scopes for hours without problems.

I bought this optic and mounted to a 6.5 creedmoor. It is dead on. And the clarity of this optic is everything it should be. Have not found a problem. Everything about this optic is great and more than exceptional. Will most certainly buy another and would recommend to anyone

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper Rifle Scope:

This is my second vortex. Was saving to buy another hs but this one went on sale couldn't beat the price. Very satisfied. I put it on my 250. It's just as good as my hs. The only difference is the eye relief. I really like these scopes. My next one will b a lr ffp.

Great Scope

By

from Alaska

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper Rifle Scope:

I own two of these scopes, both on longer range hunting rifles and love them both, the glass quality is clear for a great price. The turrets have nice positive clicks and after a year and a half they still track properly, one of the scopes did have a faulty o-ring which allowed moisture into the scope, but thanks to Vortex and their great warranty I was taken care of hassle free and quickly!

Great for Mid-Range Shooting & Hunting

By

from Los Alamos, NM

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper Rifle Scope:

My Viper 6.5-20x44 is mounted on my Remington 300 SAUM. The clarity of the glass and thin reticle help make precision shots. I shoot mid-range (up to 500 yards) with my rifle and have taken it on several Elk and Barbary Sheep hunts. Great scope for both uses. This scope has held up well in all terrains I have hunted.

By

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper Rifle Scope:

I'm a professional guise and I began buying Vortex optics 10+ years ago and currently own 11 scopes of different types. My newest is the 2X7-32 Scout. I also own one each Zeiss and Schmidt & Bender and I will stack any of my Vipers up against these or any European glass any day. I won't buy anything else!
