This really is a great value, especially when you take into consideration the Vortex warranty. For this class of scope it is bright, clear and holds its zero really well on my 30-06. I love that you can see where you are at on the zoom from behind the scope (like you were looking through it) rather than having to look on top of the scope to see the numbers. You can get a feel for this in my included photos. It just makes more sense to build it that way and works really well. Everything about the scope feels tight and solid. Being that it's a 50mm objective it sits a little higher than I'm used to but that's part of the trade off for a bright scope and I can and have used this out to 400+ yards at 1/2 hr. after sunset with no problems. That's the brightness I need in my big game rifles so this works well for me. You can see from my photos that it's seen some use and abuse but I've yet to have a problem and even if I did I know I could count on Vortex to make it right. I'm very satisfied with my purchase!

Here is the all the bad parts to this scope-
Eye relief on max power is less than 2 inches. Even on low power, the eye relief is under 3 inches. If you have butler creek scope caps, the little tab that opens the eye piece will bite you on the nose. The edge clarity is horrible and you will need the sun shade when looking sunward. Maximum elevation adjustment was right at 58 MOA, not the advertised 65 MOA- The same as most Leupold 1 inch scope tubes (even though the Vortex is a 30mm tube). The adjustments are mushy and be careful not to pull up on the caps- a nice feature to zero the turret, but easy to mess up in the field.
Now for the worst part. When hunting this past Fall, the zero shifted over 2 feet at 100 yards. It took many shots to figure this out in the field. All this and the scope had not been subjected to excessive shock. After removing the scope and centering the crosshairs using a mirror, I flipped the scope over and gave it a gentle tap on the carpet. I then checked the zero in the mirror to see the crosshairs appearing to have shifted 1/2 inch in the scope. By reversing this procedure, the crosshairs returned to zero. So each time I had fired the gun, the crosshairs had the ability to shake all over.
Now the good:
The power adjustment knob is smooth and the power setting easy to see when behind the scope. The tube seems solid and rugged and has ample room for mounting on most set ups. The BDC reticle is simple and the subtensions easy to find on the website to use for your own calculations. Their customer service is great and they were willing to repair it. But in the end, customer service can't give me back a hunt you have draw in a lottery. For the price, I would go with a Leupold, but since I had been given a Swarovski, I replaced it with that and have no complaints except the cost to buy another for my next rifle! Perhaps I will give Vortex another try, but until then, my confidence in this scope is shattered.

Worth the wait!!!

This is my second Viper PA BDC. I purchased the Viper 6.5-20x50 PA BDC for my 700 Classic in .300 Wby Mag. I also have the 4-12x40 on a 700 ADL in .270 Win. both with DNZ Game Reaper mounts. I ordered this scope in January and it was on backorder. I finally received my scope 3 months later and it was well worth the wait. Mounting, boresighting, and zeroing were a breeze. My trip to the range for sight-in was a quick 6 rounds. Great clarity, beautiful sight picture. I have no doubt that this scope will serve me well as I prepare for an upcoming elk hunt. Thank you Vortex for another fine product!!!

Just what I needed

By

from Mt Horeb, WI, USA

I own other higher end scopes and binoculars but I have to tell you, this is my favorite. As far as I can tell they're clear and bright and you don't have to twist like crazy to adjust the magnification ring like I have to do on some of others. I don't have the opportunity to use the BDC often but I've tried it. You also would love this scope.

Put this scope on my savage model 12 and it's been amazing. Clearest scope I've ever had and dialed in a few shots. Must have for anyone long range shooting.

Not buying anything but vortex!

I bought this a month ago and while not having it long I'm super impressed. On sale for 380$ I couldn't pass it up and an still shocked at the amount of scope you can get for that cheap. Plus you can't go wrong with the service of vortex. Amazing product. Originally wanted a hs lr as it will be used for long range but they were out of stock and I do not regret spending 250 less and getting just as good of a scope

Great scope! Tracks well, and the clarity is awesome. The parallax adjustment says 50 yards on the low end but it appears is actually closer to 70 yards. I would definitely buy another though!

nice glass

Received this scope as a gift, and mounted it on my Remington 700 ADL synthetic chambered in .270 Win. The improvement was phenomenal! From 0.75"-1" groups at 100 yards to 0.5" groups. I'm currently shopping for a new rifle and it will get vortex optics as well.

Couldn't Be Happier!

By

I bought a Viper PST for a long range build last year and was so pleased with it that when I needed a scope for a 300WSM I acquired there was no question it would be another Vortex! I chose the Viper 3.5-10x50 for this weapon to shoot out to 500 yards in real hunting situations and conditions. No disappointments here. Function, fit, finish and quality are up there with scopes costing twice as
much. I was a Leupold guy before I discovered Vortex, now Vortex is all I will buy!
