I have used this optic overseas twice now and It has been a great tool. I am not a sniper or a designated marksman. I do not get the $2000-$3000 dollar optics issued to me. EOTECHs and Aimpoints are great red dots, but I needed a 1-4 variable optic. The Viper PST fulfilled that requirement for me.
PROS:
-Very forgiving eye box. Easy acquisition of TGTS
- rugged and robust turrets with very tactile adjustment clicks
- Very well constructed and tough. It can handle getting knocked arround.
CONS:
- The Viper could use locking turrets. I know a model comes available with capped turrets. But locking turrets would elevate the status of this optic.
- it could use some glow tape on the turrets on the 0 indicator and each side of the window just as a quick indicator the turrets are where they need to be befor you take your shot.

Over all a great mid level optic. I am still using mine. I gave taken it on three deployments and getting ready to take it on a 4th. I hope to eventually upgrade to a RAZOR 1-6.

I purchased it from euroOptic and received excellent service. I put this on my Savage 110 30-06 with Vortex med rings on an Extreme 20 moa base. I went hunting in NC and was unable to use the scope on low magnifications during dawn and dusk. I either had to wait 20 minutes to shoot or quit hunting 20 minutes early. It was blurry and I could not focus no matter how hard I tried. The funny thing is when I increased the magnification to around 12x I could see fine again but the fov of view was of course smaller. I am sending it back and will followup as soon as I get it back. Vortex CS acted like they did not know but I located a review on Optic-Planet that said the same thing without mentioning the amount of light. I was very satisfied with the scope shooting in good light at the range but I always stayed between 12x and 24x magnification and shot between 0900hrs and 1700hrs.. I hope Vortex can fix this problem because I like everything else about the scope but if Vortex cannot fix the low magnification problem the scope is not worth putting on a hunting rifle.

Great scope, amazing glass

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scopes:

I have 2 other vortex scopes, and I think this is the best total value, My 4-16x50 pst gets out gunned by the elites...Nightforce, XTR, Steiner...,however this 1-4 does hang with the elites for half the price. I only wish it was a 1-6x

High hopes, big let down

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scopes:

First, I applaud Vortex in their vision and initiative on listening to customers and attempting to meet those needs. Their success is a testament to that and their innovative thinking speaks for itself! Although I use another model of vortex scopes, I thought this was an upgrade due to the numerous positive reviews. Sad to say, I was wrong.

I have unfortunately exchanged this optic once since purchase and will be going for a second time. The first scope (rubber mag ring) had terrible clarity, cloudy past 8x, and eventually inconsistent tracking. The second scope (aluminium mag ring) tracks true but has something on one of the internal lens surfaces that is clearly visible.

Buyer beware, this scope does NOT have a forgiving eyebox and clarity diminshes greatly past about 10-12x.

I have another scope in viper hs line that does not have any of the above issues at a much better value. I would rather see the illuminated reticle feature dropped in favor of better glass resolution/clarity and a more forgiving eyebox design.

Hey who knows, maybe third time's a charm!

The best long range scope on the market!!!

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scopes:

I put a Vortex viper on my Christensen .300 win mag as a retirement gift to myself. I took an 17 inch antelope in Nevada at 420 yards with this rifle. I just returned home from Montana with a 7x7 whitetail that I took at 620 yds. Thank your for superior quality and performance!!! Keep up the great work...

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scopes:

Veterans Day (thank you to all my Brother and Sister Vets out there!) break in of a new Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. Photo is first 5 rounds fired at 99 yards with the Vortex Optics Viper PST 6-24X50 FFP with EBR-2C (MOA) reticle at 6X firing factory Hornady 140gr. ELD Match. 24in BBL, 1:8 RH. Shooting angle 0 Deg., Alt 322 ft, Rel Hum 46.4, Wind var 3-5 from 30 deg, sight height 1.5, Temp 59.2 F. I don't think I'll be buying anything but Vortex from here out... (Sorry Nightforce, but I can buy 4 of these VERY capable Viper PSTs for the price of the Beast).

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scopes:

I was on a waiting list my ruger Pression rifle. I would call every week to see if it was in. The week of thanksgiving they called was out of town. Gave a deposit till I could pick it up. Went to cabelas for Black Friday. Bought the viper pst 4-16. Erb1. Put it on the rifle. With in 4 shots it was zeroed. Never had a combination do that. This was at a hundred yards. Started reloading shoot 1/4 group at a hundred. For some reason at 200 yards on 16 power it was not enlarged enough. The + center in not crisp as I would like. Had a friend shoot it same thing. I will have to call vortex and see. I like the clear glass at 100 yards. Want to go out to 800 yards but can see past 200. However I bought the new viper pst 6-24x50 ffp ebr2c. Will try it out next week. It wasn't easy to find.

Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP ebrc-2

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scopes:

Bout this scope for a Tikka 260. The scope has been great with crisp turrets with good audio and physical feed back on every click. Ebrc2 reticle is great for rapid windage adjustments. With the help of this optic I have been able to shoot 0.30 MOA groups with my rifle. Vortex has done an awesome job, again, with this scope.

Disapointment.

By

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scopes:

I bought the viper PST FFP. The scope made it almost a year on the rifle and had to get the scope warrantied. The cross hairs were moving after every time the rifle was fired. Couldn't make a decent group for nothing. Took it back to the dealer I bought it from, and they bore sighted it and tapped on the top of the scope and found the cross hairs were moving. Was pretty disappointed in that for how much money was spent. Its not a very good hunting scope due to the uncapped turrets. Walking through the trees or rubbing up against your hunting pack will turn the turrets. Removed scope and went back to the cheap scope

Awesome buy!

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scopes:

After using this scope in the field I don't know how I could have used a regular rifle scope before. Worth every penny. This scope does everything I need consistently. I've had several other scopes that do not compare. At 16 power the scope is a little bit distorted for long range shots but that's to be expected.

WOW

By

Comments about Vortex Optics Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scopes:

This is a wonderful scope. I have made some impossible shots (target) and cant wait to buy my next scope for another gun. Mounted on an Remington 700 308 ACC 10 in 1. Made a 400 yard shot last week to get my first antelope. I have been learning to load my own ammo so I can make my 700 as accurate as possible with this scope. At first it was a choice between the night force and Viper. Friend has the night force, but now he wants a Vortex.
