What's New with the GX2
Shakespeare's Ugly Stik line has long been one of the most durable and budget friendly lines known to fishermen everywhere. Shakespeare has been advertising their rugged rod for years, demonstrating how much of a beating this rod can take. Since 1976 Shakespeare has lived by the idea that "If it aint broke, don’t fix it," and hasn't done much to change the Ugly Stik construction. Now Shakespeare is introducing a new Ugly Stik in the GX2 that has enhancements that go beyond just looks.
This new construction keeps all that you loved from the original Ugly Stik and adds a few modern improvements. The GX2 has a new blank through reel seat design, stainless steel Ugly Tuff Guides, better weight and balance as well as a more modern look that showcases a matte black finish. The new guides are made of stainless steel and don't have inserts, so you don't have to worry about them breaking down and popping out. The GX2 combos also have new and updated reels. The spincast combos feature the Shakespeare Synergy Steel 6 and 10 models as well as the Synergy Ti Micro for those looking for something a little smaller in size. Ugly Stik has updated the spinning reels as well. They now come standard with a glass filled nylon body and reel sizes 20 – 35 with three ball bearings and a one-way clutch instant anti-reverse bearing.
What's the Same
The GX2 has kept the legendary toughness that made it a staple with fishermen of all ages and experience levels. You'll immediately recognize the Ugly Stik Clear Tip that just wont break and is sensitive to the lightest strike. You'll also notice the diamond pattern wind just above the grip that anglers have grown to associate with the Ugly Stik brand.
So check out the new GX2 and see for yourself how much of an improvement Ugly Stik has made with this new generation of Ugly Stik rod.
