Steve of Spring, TX - November, 28 2015:
Purchased the 4pc 8wt for steelheading in PA / WNY this past fall. Perfect rod for large steelies. Action allows the rod to load well with dropper rigs / split shot and egg / sucker spawn patterns. Best casting range is about 45-55 feet although good at longer ranges and excellent at about 30 feet as well. Good quality, well finished, although cork could be higher grade. However, for this price, can't be beat, and the cork does look "good", just not perfect. More importantly, this $270 rod competes very competently with ORVIS, SAGE and Scott models. With a lifetime warranty, made in USA, and St Croix's SilverStar service, you have a winner. I own 6 other St Croix rods, including Legend Elites, Avid's and Legend Ultras. They cannot be beat for the $$. Cast one, you will see. (Consult Yellowstone anglers 8 wt shootout as well).Dunk Stieben of Colo Spgs, CO - October, 23 2010:
I've bought fly rods that triple the cost of this rod. But i can honestly say this rod feels and performs wonderfully. It has the same lifetime warranty that my high end rods do. It also has a true medium fast action, which i like because i can still shoot a fly line if needed, or i can open up my loops a little bit for a softer presentation!Dusty of Twin Falls, ID - May, 04 2013:
Great fly rod, good distance, presentation, easy to use and feels like quality. I would put it against any of my higher end rods.Chad C. of Spanaway, WA - May, 05 2013:
This is an excellent rod! Light and sensitive this rod can do it all! I like that it comes with a hard case and a lifetime warranty!Marc of Boise, ID - May, 07 2013:
This rod is great! The action is a little slower than my other rods, so it doesn't beat the wind as good, but it makes a really nice presentation. It comes with a rod tube as well, which is very nice.Skyler of Mesa, AZ - May, 14 2013:
St. Croix sure makes a great product and this rod is no exception. The Imperial is more of a moderate fast action rod and feels more like a traditional action that many fly anglers prefer. It is not stiff like many of the modern fast action rods that the industry has been coming out with. Lightweight, great lifetime warranty, and casts wonderfully. Great all around rod especially for lighter tippets and dries.Tyler of Soldotna, AK - May, 22 2013:
I've personally never had a bad experience with St. Croix rods. The imperial is very sensitive and you can really feel the action through it. It's verry light weight and well balanced.Kevin of Herriman, UT - July, 03 2013:
I really like this rod a lot. It has a very forgiving mod-fast action that is easy to cast for both experienced and beginner fly anglers alike. It comes with a good warranty and a very nice case. It would make an excellent rod for those fly anglers graduating from a beginner setup to a real quality rod that is made to go the distance.Collette of Flagstaff, AZ - July, 08 2013:
I purchased the 7 foot 3 weight fly rod and it has been great for tossing dries on small streams. The rod allows for a delicate presentation because of its nice action. I also love the fact that this rod, although from a large rod company, is still made here in America.Dustin Rose of Richmond, KY - February, 10 2014:
I bought a 7 foot 3 weight and I really like it I have a couple high dollar rods and this rod cast just as good as my switch rod a have $2,000.oo in this rod with a really good WF Floating line it will out cast most rods. I can cast it 75 feet no problem and I love catching big fish on it like big brown's and rainbow's and I use it a lot for bluegill, bass, and crappie to. but it comes in handy on little spring creeks fishing for native brook trout were you cant get a long rod. so thanks ST.CROIX for making such great rods. I would give it 10 stars if I couldSteve Tomlinson of Spring, TX - April, 23 2015:
Great rod for the money....great action, quality components, well crafted and finished: a rod any serious flyfisher would be proud to own. All this and made in USA (dare you to find another rod of this quality and this price made in USA) and backed with an excellent St. Croix warranty...Oh, and received right on time from SW....
