I am basing this review on the price of the spotting scope. I just got back from the range and must say this is a decent spotting scope for the price. At max magnification it felt like you did have to have your eye too close to the lens but other than that it is pretty good. The scope was bright at all magnifications. I was able to see my hits on paper from a .357 lever action and a .308 at the 200 yard line and adjust as necessary. I don't think this would be a great spotter for field use but as a range spotter it was excellent. I set it up on the lane next to me as the range was pretty empty today. I took a few shots and then checked the scope. The tripod that accompanies the spotting scope stayed on target. The tripod was easy to setup and use. Just locked it down after zeroing in on the paper and it holds position.
Better than i thought it would be.
This is a very nice scope for the price range. Good clear optics and the armor coating is excellent. With a weight of just over 1 pound it's easy to carry and handle without being cumbersome. Good magnification range with sharp focus. The biggest draw back I found was the tripod. In my opinion they would have been better off not including it with the scope. It's flimsy and cheap. I wouldn't trust it at all. There is so much slop in the legs and joints it's impossible for it to hold anything steady. It's a good thing the scope is really light otherwise it wouldn't support it. The scope alone is worth the selling price of $79.99 so it's not a big lose to just throw the tripod away in favor of a better one. In fact that would be my suggestion. Overall it's a nice package and money well spent for an entry level Spotting Scope. It does come with lens caps however it would be a worth while upgrade to swap them for a set of Flip Open covers such as Butler Creek for ease of use. I would definitley recommend this scope to anyone wanting an inexspensive scope with good quality to start out with.
Scope is very nice. However, The tri-pod that is advertised with it is complete junk. If you are buying this simply because it comes with a tri-pod I would look elsewhere.
Scope looks great. I was real happy that it came with a stand. I will use it at the range mostly. When i opened the box, I was immediatly dissappointed in the stand. The screw that holds the top on does not work. It won't tighten so the top spins and if you tip it forward, it falls off. The nut that locks the upper neck does not work either. Lucky for me I had a couple of extra camera tripods so I used one of them. If you get this, check the tripod BEFORE you leave the store or have a backup at home.
Great Spotting Scope for the Price,
before i purchased this spotting scope,i tried a number of different brand name spotting scopes with higher price tags and different magnifications.I use my scope @ the shooting range, nature studies, and for predator hunting.Don't let the price tag fool you! This is a quality spotting scope that comes with a very nice soft carrying case with a sturdy tripod.(if you are in a strong wind)place a small sand bag @ the base and this eill give you ample stability!I'm very pleased with scope, and it didn't hurt my budget! Don't believe some of the negative comment's on other sites.
This scope is well worth the price. It is just what I need for the range to sight in my guns. Much better then having to walk to and from the target every six or seven shots.
For the money this scope has it all. Power and really clear optics. If you are looking for a light weight back pack or a all around scope this is one for you.it comes with a case and a table top tripod.
