I have had two of these reels, one for 7 years, and the other for 2 years. I own several brands and I have to say that this is great value for the money. The reel does have a lot of plastic, which kind of sucks, but it's at a $30 price point. You'd have to go with Pflueger's President Reel to get into a all metal option, but it has a higher price point. I guess it's the trade off for buying an affordable reel. On the upside it performs fantastic. I have the 2500 and 4000 series reels and have had no issues with them at all. The drag on these reels is high quality stuff for the price point. Honestly, it's a better drag system than some of my reels that are much more expensive. I use the 2500 for jigging bucktails, drop shotting, whacky worms, and bait fishing. The 4000 series is more for catfish, carp, and surf fishing. These are sealed reels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At $30 price point!!!!!! What does that mean? I can take this river fishing and surf fishing. Not dunk proof, but they can be washed down after a day of fishing, with the drag clamped down, to clean off any debris they accumulated on the river or on the surf. Super excellent. These are great starter reels for kids too. These are the reels my kids get on their b-days. When they grow up they can invest in their own equipment, but I paired the 2500 series reels with a a 7ft medium action Ugly Stik GX2 for the kids. It's a killer combo and not just for the kids. I am so guilty of using their gear on my solo trips, because it gets the job done. I own Daiwa and Okuma reels and it's a competitive reel at this price point. You'd have to get into the Avenger series for Okuma or the Laguna series for Daiwa to spank the Sienna. Those are both more expensive than the Sienna. In my opinion this is the best reel at $30 or below. I honestly wouldn't mess with any of the reels below $30. I have a Daiwa Sweepfire and it's OK, but in retrospect, I would of spent the extra $10 for the Sienna instead.
- Was this a gift?:
after 2 years of learning to cast with a bait cast and then one of those underspin reals, this was a present for my 6 year old. i tried it and its a quality real right up there with any high end shimano or any other manufacture. i believe he will get many years of use out of this reel.
