Michael Porter of Bakersfield, CA - May, 02 2014:
In all fairness, I don't even know why they made a SPOT3. My SPOT2 worked, at best, fair, and SPOT2 is no different. Antenna is often cranky [even when I use it flat on its back like its supposed to be]. I was hoping for a little more product development, but truthfully, am really disappointed in the unit. For $149, I'm not out that much money, but the feature set and reliability is not even close where it should be. Big letdown.Tom of Winchester, CA - December, 04 2014:
I planned a 7 day mostly offroad motorcycle dualsport trip by myself. My wife bought me a SPOT the day before I left, second day into the ride, 30 miles from civilization I fell and broke my leg. Two hours later after utilizing the SPOT I was in a helicopter heading for the hospital. Saved my life.VintageHusky of Winchester, CA - December, 09 2014:
Embarked on 7 day offroad motorcycle trip by myself. The day before I left my wife bought me a SPOT, just in case. The second day into my trip, 30 miles from civilization I fell and broke my leg. I activated the SOS function and within 2 hours I was being loaded into a helicopter for a ride to the hospital. The SPOT is a must for anybody engaging in a sport by themselves in a remote area.BillP of Chandler, AZ - December, 12 2014:
I had the occasion a few months ago to use the SOS function when I came upon a cyclist who had crashed and broke a hip, in the middle of the Great Divide Basis (WY). It was far from any town, no cell service. In less than an hour after pressing the SOS button on my SPOT, a deputy arrived, and within another couple of hours the rider was packed up into an ambulance and on the way to the hospital. The tracking is pretty reliable. I like the unit but do find the tracking and other service levels start to get pretty pricey. Don't know how that compares to other, similar, services.
