Okuma SLV Fly ReelOkuma SLV Fly Reel - A great looking reel, but the real story is that it's a very good entry-level reel.
Okuma SLV Fly Reel - Cast-aluminum reel that is surprisingly tight-fitting, with very little wobble in the spool. It has plenty of line & backing capacity without being too bulky, it is a very light-weight reel for its size. It's also a good looking reel, but the real story is that it's a very good entry-level reel. Like most Okuma reels, this one offers great value for the dollar.

I love fishing with this reel. However, I found on icy winter days, the drag will freeze up on you. If you are breaking ice from your guides, the drag isn't far behind in freezing.
I purchased the 7/8 wt. for a pike fishing expedition to Canada, Northern (Saskatchewan). Put it on an 8wt. Fenwick HMG w/Rio 8wt intermediate "Trout" line with 125 yds of 30lb braid for backing (it all fit nicely). I made my own leaders, 5' of 50# mono & 16" 30# steel leader. Caught dozens of 35" to 40" Northerns and countless smaller ones. The drag was EXCELLENT, never came close to the backing and seemed to dominate the larger Pike. NO failures, had a blast! My son WON the trip On a Sportsman's News Drawing! Thanks a MILLION!
Really a great reel, especially for the price. Have two 4/5 models that I use for small streams. Recommend the next size up when buying. I use the 4/5 w 3 wt line and about 50 yds of backing. Also have an 8/9 which has worked well in salt water. Very we'll built.
I bought the 7/8 because I liked my 5/6 so well. I catch 20 to 23inch fish pretty regularly on my home waters and these reels handle them beautifully . These are a great reel for the price. I would give one as a gift.
Ive had one of these for a few years now. Can't beat the reel for the price. I have beat the heck out of mine and it just keeps going. I have caught thousands of fish on it.
This is a kick butt reel for the price. It is lightweight, smooth and has a killer drag system. I really like this reel!
Great Fly Reel That's Less Than $100!! Can't Beat It!!! Extremely Happy!! Drag system is smooth... Easy to take apart & adjust for right & left hand retrievers.. Looks good with any set up! 1st time taking it out & It worked beautifully! If your looking for a great entry level reel, this one's for you & for the buck, it a steal!!! Get Yours!!!
This is one of the best reels Ive had. Feels and handles nice, perfect drag adjustment. Smooth retrieval.
Good fly reel that does it's job
Second Okuma reel I have bought. Great reel, love the quick drag system but have not tested it out on a large winter steelhead yet. The problem I have had with the 7-8 reel is the arbor is too small for the Rio steelhead line I bought for it and can only fit 50 yards of backing on it. The 8 wt fly line is a touch larger so I am going to change the fly line in the future to see if that helps. It is a great reel for the price.
