Great Product

By

from Cloverdale, California

This rod for the price is an excellent product and beats the Cabella's middle of the line rod that I just broke because of production defects. I purchased the 4/5 weight rod and it delivers the line very well. The action is perfect and long casts are easy to make. The only thing I would recommend is that two reel seat rings be added to future models.
I actually went back and purchased a 3/4 rod and will purchase a 5/6 Okuma rod in the near future.

Poor performance, Falls apart. Bad Warranty.

About Me Auto Enthusiast

Pros

  • Inexpensive compared to other Fly Rods at first.
  • You can re-gift it if someone gives you one.

Cons

  • Quality so poor it won't last 1 season.

Best Uses

  • Combined Highway/City

CRF-45-86-2 model number

I forgive the poor performance because of the price. I don't forgive it for falling apart in less than 90 days. It wasn't supposed to be a rental.

There I was, June 27th out fly fishing in a kayak. After the second cast, the reel seat falls off and it dumps my reel. This was my fifth fishing trip with this rod I bought on March 31. Please look at the pics.

Okuma wants me to saw off the handle and pay for shipping to them, and shipping back($16 even though the card says $10) to get a new rod under warranty. If it costs $30 to use a warranty, there is no warranty. That's more than half the cost of the original to get back the same thing.

I was hoping that Okuma would step up on this one because it was so new, but I just got off the phone with them, and the short answer is no.

I love shopping at Sportsman's Warehouse. I plan on taking this rod back to them to see if they can repair it. They probably can, and for less than shipping.

My recommendations to anyone reading this, talk to a pro before spending your dough. There's supposed to be a local fly fishing club and shop, going to check it out.

Okuma Crisium Fly Rod

This rod is one of the worst casting fly rods I could imagine using, it is a 2x4 with a cork handle , it casts no where near the performance of a TFO Signature fly rod or even my 5wt Eagle Claw Black Eagle, this thing is absolute junk on it's best day you could actually spend less and end up with a much better fly rod, All of my Martin fly rods out perform this thing, this a must miss !!

The best fly rod for under $100. Hands down. This handles and feels like a TFO or Ross and is only a fraction of the cost. The only drawback is that it's a 2 piece instead of 4. But overall, this rod is outstanding.

We have a lot of big water and a lot of big fish in this part of Colorado. The biggest fish I caught in 2010 was on a small back country creek that requires a 5 hour hike to reach. Fishing a #14 Joe's hopper I landed a 22" 2+ lb native cutthroat on my 7' rod using #3 line and a light leader/light tippet combo. The little rod handled this fish easily. Of all the rods in my collection this is now my favorite. It worked equally well when used for sensitive nymph fishing this Fall on high mountain brook trout. I can't wait for Spring!
