This is my favorite Mountain House meal when I go hunting. It is not overly spicy and does not create a bunch of gas to fart while hunting elk in the mountains or in my stands. I don't separate the contents like the instructions state, no time for that, simply add your boiling water to all the ingredients in the pouch, seal and place under your shirt to warm yourself up as it rehydrates. Occasionally squish the contents in the bag around to mix things up good. The spices from the mashed potatoes really add good flavor to the chicken. Give it a few extra minutes to let the chicken really soak up the water ... a little extra water doesn't hurt!
We love this dinner. We backpacked to the Havasupai Reservation in the Grand Canyon last year. This was our favorite meal of all. Yes, the chicken has to be taken out separately for a bit (ziploc bag)but this is the most flavorful. This year we bought the bucket of meals. It is so easy to take a meal each day to rehydrate for each hunting day. There is literally no clean up other than the packaging to take home. Love it!
I've had several of the Mountain House meals, and this one has been my least favorite. For starters, it's not as easy as the others. One of the steps involves removing the chicken for a bit... I'm hiking with no real place to put it, not to mention that whatever it is, it's not chicken! I've had tree bark with more flavor. The potatoes were good and the best part of the meal. Unlike other Mountain House meals, I do not recommend going light on the water.
