I was somewhat skeptical about buying these after reviewing Midland and some other brands. The one drawing card was the availability of VOX headpieces that actually have a speaker in an ear muff instead of a bud and is hands free. All of the advertised distances are pretty much a bunch of malarky, as most are based on line of sight. I've tried them in an private aircraft at 22 miles and they don't work even though they're rated for 35miles. They are exceptionally clear within an 8-10 mile radius that should serve just about everyone. The battery life is exceptional and recharge fairly fast. The LED light is another nice feature along with the National Weather stations. All in all I think they're a great unit.
