These things are great. They keep the the snow and rain and gunk off my scope. There so well built my friends think they're part of the scope.
I bought a VX3i a few months ago and then decided to finish it off with some scope covers before hunting season this year. After shopping for covers and finding a set of the leupold covers it was a cinch to pick these for my new scope. The look of the covers itself was enough to make the decision to purchase. Once mounted I was very happy with the way these covers functioned - easy opening with a positive "click" when closing. A couple issues I encountered during and after the installation are worth mentioning to try and save others from the same problems. #1) The scope was mounted on my rifle so while attempting to screw on the front cover the hinge would hit the barrel. I had to unmount the scope to thread on the front cover. Since I used leupold mounts I was a little surprised that this happened. #2) The bigger problem was encountered once both covers were installed and the scope remounted. When attempting to operate the rifles bolt it would hit the rear cover release making it impossible to open the bolt with the cover oriented with the hinge up. NOTE: My rifle is a left hander so this problem would not be encountered by most. I wish that leupold would make a rear cover that would work with a left handed gun but do understand the economics of why they don't.
This is my first Leopold and I wanted to have a matching lens cover. I wanted it to be made in USA. So far it has performed well, with all the abuse of being outdoors
These lens caps are the most pefect lens caps available on the market. When installed, they look like they came with the scope. Perfect marriage of scope and flip-up lens caps
Lever that opens cover broke on 3rd hunt ,cover was 8 months old.EP fit was poor.
Firstly, I've got to say, these covers are absolutely fantastic. They are a little overpriced in my book, but in this case you truly get what you pay for. (I purchased the 50mm objective set) I was previously using a very well known brand of slip on flip covers. Long story short, the slip covers added just enough bulk to my objective to come into contact with the barrel. The scope had enough clearance by itself, so I wouldn't sacrifice scope height for cheap lens covers. Enter Leupold Alumina flip covers. Installation: If like me, clearance is an issue, fret not. You can open the flip cover and rotate the threads independently of the body. This allowed me to get around the three stubs on the objective end. After the covers are tightened sufficiently, the bodies are still able to rotate, but not so easily that it shifts undesirably. Usage: Both covers shut firmly and fairly quietly. The objective end gives a little of a suction cuppy sound as it's sealed. Opening, however, seems to be the opposite. The eyepiece end seems to give a little pop as it's opened, whereas the objective seems only to make a very quiet squeak from the hinges as it promptly opens. Either way, both opening and closing these covers is significantly quieter than the previous popular slip on brand. Both covers naturally open to about a 45 degree angle with respect to the scope, but can be pushed all the way down to lay flat on the scope. Finally, I've got to say, aesthetically, these this are gorgeous. They match my matte black scope perfectly. The Leupold logos seem to mimic the gold ring on the scope with just a touch of patina.
