Add preloaded U.S. topographical maps, high-sensitivity GPS, barometric altimeter, 3-axis electronic compass and microSD&trade card slot, and you get a multipurpose device that will make your biggest adventures even more memorable. Capture locations and memories with Oregon 550t's 3.2 megapixel autofocus digital camera with 4x digital zoom. Each photo is geotagged automatically with the location of where it was taken, allowing you to navigate back to that exact spot in the future. Snap and view pictures in landscape or portrait orientation. With 850 MB of internal memory, you'll never miss a photo opportunity. For more storage, insert a microSD&trade card; you even can view pictures from other devices on microSD with Oregon's picture viewer. Oregon 550t makes rugged navigation effortless with a tough, 3" (7.62 cm) diagonal, sunlight-readable, color touchscreen display. The interface is easy to use, so you'll spend more time enjoying the outdoors and less time searching for information. Both durable and waterproof, Oregon 550t is built to withstand the elements; bumps, dust, dirt, humidity and water are no match for this rugged navigator. Oregon 550t comes with built-in U.S. topographic data for the continental U.S. and a worldwide basemap with shaded relief - all the tools for serious climbing or hiking. Map detail includes national, state and local parks and forests, along with terrain contours, elevation information, trails, rivers, lakes and points of interest. Oregon 550t has a built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass, which shows where you're heading even when you're standing still, without holding it level. Its barometric altimeter tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your precise altitude, and you even can use it to plot barometric pressure over time, which can help you keep an eye on changing weather conditions. And with its high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and HotFix® satellite prediction, Oregon 550t locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. With Oregon 550t you can share your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches wirelessly with other compatible Oregon, Colorado and Dakota users.

of Idaho Falls, ID - December, 04 2009:
The Garmin Oregon 550T is a fantastic piece of work! It sure seems that Garmin did their homework before they released the 550T. It has so many features that the GPS geek will be happy playing around with it, but it's still easy enough to use that a beginner could pick it up and make it work. The touch screen is great, and takes any button pushing mystery out of the equation. Older color screens didn't work very well in direct sunlight because they weren't bright enough. The screen on the 550T looks great in the sun, and is very easy to read, even in direct sunlight. One of my favorite things about the 550T is the built-in 3.2 megapixel digital camera. It takes a good picture, but that's not the best part. The best part of it is that every time you take a picture, it ""geotags"" the picture. It basically remembers where you where when you took the picture, and you can look at the location on the map later on. It's great to have the extra help remembering exactly where I was when I took a picture of a draw I want to hunt, or a little mountain lake I want to fish. The 550T is also waterproof, so I don't have to worry about getting it wet. I would highly recommend the 550T to anyone interested in getting into GPS, or updating their current GPS.
ken treichel of blackfoot , ID - May, 15 2013:This is the second Garmin I have had over the last twenty-five years. The first was still working great when I sold it, an old 80 series. This one is fantastic, I use it for geocaching, but also for hunting and riding in the desert. Have used it in unfamiliar fishing areas to return to return to the spot, even using the camera. Great unit, options and unlimited for use even for disc golf at some state parks. Still getting use to it, lots to learn, plan on adding the Idaho map sd card soon.
