I've used German alcohol stoves for a few years now, and even know how to build the soda can burners. But, a Turm Sport stove is impractical for a bug out bag. I've wanted to purchase one of these for awhile, so last night, I did. When I got home, I tested it, and made a cup's worth of rice in one of my backpack pots. The rice came out perfect! The Esbit boiled the water fairly quickly, when used in a Coughlin stove, and the simmer ring regulated the simmer perfectly! All in all, this was a good investment; now, all I need, is something that flolds flatter than my Coughlin's stove, like an Emberlit perhaps...
I have used the Esbit / Trangia / and other alcohol stoves for years... by far the Esbit has been a dependable, rugged stove for solo events... GREAT addition to other backpacking / B.O.B / and other wilderness activities...
I have used both the Esbit & Trangia alcohol stves for backpacking, ultra light camping ... Both work great but the Esbit has a longer handle on the cover to control simmer with.. I have used these for years, and just purchased another for my bug out bag They work better than the beer/pop/coke can alcohol stoves you make.....
