I wanted to let everbody know how well this rod performed for me. It is light and strong it is a great rod for panfish or trout .Bob V of Longmont, CO - May, 17 2013:
The Daiwa Spinmatic model SMC 802ULFS, 8' 0" Ultra Light, Fast spinning rods are great downrigger rods for trout and Kokanee. They also work great as conventional spinning rods for trout, bass, and pan fish in ponds and lakes. The 8' length and fast taper provides added sensitivity and lets you cast bait, lures, and bubble/fly combinations with ease and you'll be surprised at the added distance you get when casting. Great value for the price with plenty of backbone to set the hook and handle large fish in the 5 - 10lb range. Buy 2 as once you have one, you'll never go back to the shorter rods again.TroutKilla of Tucson, AZ - July, 08 2014:
Ordered the SMC 802ULFS model & paired it up with a 1000 size Shimano Spirex reel. Spooled it with 4lb fluorocarbon & it's my go to combo, because a) it's super sensitive, b) casts tiny lures really far, & c) catches fish. Mostly fishing waters that have 1-5 pound fish in them & my 8lb set up just wasn't doing it for me. Definitely catching a ton more fish now & didn't spend a lot of cash on my set up. At first was losing a lot of fish, because I was used to using a heavier action rod, & had to learn how to rock the ultralight rod action. To set the hook you have to use a horizontal sweeping motion versus a vertical motion. Thinking about getting another one for my daughter's ultralight Okuma Avenger reel. Have used spinners, jigs, crankbaits, soft plastics, artificial baits, stink baits, and various live baits with success. Have had this rod past the 1yr warranty period with no major issues & it's get used heavily twice a month.Chad Fraser of West Jordan, UT - February, 23 2015:
