I really like the shape of the Cold Steel Kukri. The handle has a really good textured grip to it. The sheath fits really well, and snaps open/shut on the back so you can get it in and out easily. The blade steel is soft and dulls easily, but most machetes are like that since the blade would chip if it was harder. The blade is only 13" long, which is shorter than a lot of other machetes, but the way the weight is out on the end of the blade lets it chop like it's a lot longer.

Tommy Johnson of Wasilla, AK - July, 06 2011:

This is one of the best machete's one could ask for. Styled along the lines of the Phillipino Bolo knife the blade is designed to exert more force with each stroke due to the blade design. Machete blades are designed of softer steel to keep from destroying the blade in accidental contact with objects such as steel, iron or rock. While softer the steel does sharpen easier and if staying away from a very sharp edge your sharpness will last longer.

Rob of Saint George, UT - October, 06 2011:

Decent camp chopper if you don't want or need an axe. Mine came with a blunt edge. Plan on spending some quality time with a file and stone to get it sharp. This blade is pretty decent, good for the price. It is 1055 steel, not real hard, but good carbon steel. I sanded the black coating off of mine and applied a vinegar patina to protect the blade. If you want a brush-clearing blade, this isn't it. Great for camp chores and firewood tho. Batons fast through arm-thick logs, chops nice and easy. Good balance. Some creative file work and a convex edge can make it a very good bushcraft wood tool.

Jack Lindberg of battle ground, WA - March, 03 2011:

It is a great knife for the price. it doesn't come razor sharp, and doesn't hold an edge for very long, but you can get it hair shaving sharp. The finish in the blade sucks. i chopped some holly bushes in the woods with it and it scratched it right off. it makes a great throwing knife, which i did not expect, but was very happy with. jack
