The Coghlans Emergency/Survival blanket is an ideal item of outdoor medical, rescue, and survival equipment. The blanket is heavy reflective material inside with a bright red ripstop nylon outside layer. The blanket is wind and water proof. It may be used as a survival blanket to maintain your body temperature, a patient blanket, tarp, ground cloth, shelter material, or poncho. Any use where you need to keep the wind and moisture out and heat reflected in.
This blanket is strong and will last many years. IT IS NOT A SINGLE USE DISPOSABLE ITEM! This emergency blanket is not similar to the 2 dollar silver space blankets. This is a durable re-usable piece of equipment.
I am a Search & Rescue Technician Instructor and Wilderness EMT Instructor. This is an essential item of wilderness medicine and survival equipment. We include a Coghlans Emergency Blanket in each of our SAR Team's Stokes Litters and medical kits. We encourage every individual SAR member to carry one in their pack. The blankets are rugged and will last for several seasons of use.
There are several brands of survival/rescue blankets. We have found the Coghlans brand to be the most rugged. I give the Coghlans blanket a 4 instead of 5 because of the bulk. Other brands are thinner and fold up to a slightly smaller size. For our use, the durability is more important than the small difference in storage size. However, if you are looking for an emergency blanket to be carried for emergencies, but seldom used, other brands are slightly more compact. If you plan to use this routinely as a tarp, ground cloth, sleeping bag supplement on cold nights, etc; and for emergency use if needed, you will wonder how you ever got along without this.
