This is a great idea for those that don't want to warp there new griddle. I wish I would have had one before this happend. After i purchased one I found that my food cooks better and it spreads the heat out more even. Works great when using dutch ovens as well. Another product you might want to look at as well is the dutch oven dome. It has a diffuser plate in it and also has a cover for your dutch oven so you don't have to use coals on top.

This accessory let me use a dutch oven on one of my two burner Camp Chef stoves, and as such, it did a fine job. Kept things from getting too hot in one spot and let me cook up some delicious cobbler without any burning. It does what it says, what more do you want? Oh, and at a good price, too!

These defuser plates help destribute the heat to the bottom of your cast iron and help with the hot spot without them, I never put my cast iron directly over a burner without using one of these and have been very satisfied with the results.
