Buck 119 Special Knives - This classic large hunting knife has been a super seller going back some 47 years. Hoyt and Al Buck used to build them by hand in their two-man shop. Today, this larger hunting knife with a large clip blade for detail work, piercing and cutting in tight places for added control, is as popular as ever. I use a regular 119.
This is my collector model.
It is razor sharp out-of-the-box.
I never give out max. # stars because there is ALWAYS room to improve.
Plus, I don't have a hardness tester to verify Rc 58.
This knife is pretty darn close to 5.
Visually, the only defecits are buff marks on the brass.
I know I'm talking like a food critic. ;)

The Buck 119, 75th Anniversary Edition is well-made, sharp, has good balance and control, and it's very pleasing to the eye.

Great job, to everyone at Buck!

I found my first buck knife in an antique store. It was a 119. The blade is beautiful and the old sheath was durable, thick, and stiff. More recently I bought the 75th anniversary 119 for my self and my daughter. The knife was as amazing as my first one, but the sheath was absolutely disappointing. After just one hike, the loop for the belt was in a permanent twisted state. A friend of mine bought the same knife and after a few hiking trips the belt loop pulled right off the sheath. If I could find one of those older 119 sheaths, I would be happy to pay dearly for it. Simply put, I'm really unhappy with the sheath.

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

I bought my first one in 1990. I use this knife for hunting. It has never let me down whatever I have asked from it. Fact is, I liked it so much I bought a second one in Dec. 2000. Great knife and looks good. Thanks to those at Buck for making this knife!

leather and/or kydex

By

from Arizona City

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

How can an ideal knife be improved? Buck did it by offering handles, pommels & hand guards in other attractive, functional materials. The leather sheath is protective & good quality leather, but the belt loop really needs widening. The 119 is used in all sorts of environments which means its sheath would be as well. I suggest Buck offer one of kydex rather than merely providing a thin, plastic liner in the present leather sheath. I realise it's a classic -- a most deserved title -- but having the option of a well-designed, ambidextrous, kydex sheath would be ideal for a knife of the same calibre. Also, thanks for offering a left-handed, leather sheath for us southpaws!

Buck for the win.

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

I think the fact that the 119 has been around 75 years speaks volumes to the quality of this knife. The steel is hard enough for tough jobs and soft enough to sharpen. The handle fits my hands well and gives me confidence for wet work. Good balance and the look is a classic. Lord willing I'll always have a Buck knife within reach.

One of the best made and balanced knives I have.

By

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

I bought the 75th anniversity model 119 Special as a companion knife to my pre 1980 119. The new knife is one of the best balanced knives I now own, and exhibits some of the best workmanship I have seen. All of the grinds, (working edge, false edge, choil, etc.) are flawless. I am looking forward to using this knife this hunting season.

So impressed I bought one for myself and my best friend

By

from Tucson, AZ

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

I bought one as a birthday gift for my hunting partner and best friend. I was thoroughly impressed with the heft of the knife, the way it felt in my hand, the attention to detail and craftsmanship, the size and the extremely sharp blade. I just had to get one for myself. I will be using mine on my upcoming deer and elk hunts this fall.

Great Knife but very weak looking sheath.

By

from Bozrah, CT

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

I received my 119 and I was very excited to see and feel such a wonderful creation. The first thing I noticed was the sheath. It was thin and flimsy. I would've expected it to unsnap with a bit of force but it was so thin I can't imagine it lasting with any real use. The snaps look as if they will pull right through the thin leather. For an anniversary edition I was expecting better. The knife itself is gorgeous. It's engraved with my sons name and I can't wait for him to have it. Quite simply the quality of the sheath doesn't match the quality of what it holds.

Buck 119

By

from Nebraska

Comments about Buck Knives Buck 119 Special Knives:

My dad bought two Buck knives back in the "70's". One was the 119 and he gave it to my nephew. It still looks like it did when he bought it. I have NOT a clue as to how many critters it has skinned over the years but it is one hardy knife. Just this year (2014) I went and bought two for myself and they were razor sharp right out of the package. I doubt that I will ever have to buy another 119 as long as I live. Thank you for a very well made knife.
