Innovation at its best. Never had one lock up on me. The design is so simple and yet so effective and clever. One thing you never see mentioned is how, when the gate is open, the 2 magnets repel each other and force the little locking arms open. Just perfect so they don't flop in the way preventing the gate to close. I had a 'hand tightened' Attache 3D freeze up on me. Had to use a pair of shifters to remove it. Never need to do that with my Magnetrons. One handed operation. They look stunning. I love them. Only suggestion? Make smaller versions of the RockLock.

I purchased this carabiner because I thought it would be simple to use and I wouldn't have to worry about my gate freezing up. I've gone through many screwgate carabiners and know the pain of having them seize up. The magnetron works great for climbing and for belay but don't get this carabiner dirty and do not bump it against anything. I've taken this carabiner through some of the best and most difficult canyons in Utah and it does not like these things. I've had it freeze up on me at least twice now. I push the sides to open it and nothing happens. I tap the gate to try and get things to loosen up and nothing. I'm not saying this is a bad carabiner because it isn't. It just wasn't designed for canyoneering. So, if that's your pleasure, then I would strongly advise against this one. Thanks.

Safest locking carabiner I've ever used

By

Comments about Black Diamond Rocklock Screwgate Carabiner - Bronze:

Because the default position of this carabiner is closed and locked, there is almost no way to assume it's locked when it isn't. This is especially nice when tired and/or in the dark. Also it may be easily opened with either hand. It is the first locking carabiner I've used in the 50+ years I've been climbing that seems idiot-proof.

Good large carabiner

Comments about Black Diamond Rocklock Screwgate Carabiner - Bronze:

Light weight and built with quality materials. Gate opens wide enough to fit around a rescue littler rail and multiple strands of 11mm cord.

Big improvement over twist lock carabiners

By

from Utah

Comments about Black Diamond Rocklock Screwgate Carabiner - Bronze:

I have used twist lock carabiners for years, and screw locks before that. The magnetic locks are great. Easy to open one handed; closes and locks automatically when you let go. It is also a good size; not too big, not too small. Until something better comes along, I will be using this for my rappel/belay needs.

Perfect for Rock

By

Comments about Black Diamond Rocklock Screwgate Carabiner - Bronze:

This is one of the easiest to use locking carabiners on the market right now. It is as easy to open as any non locking carabiner, but just as safe if not safer than any locking carabiner. I have tried every way I can think of to bust it open with no luck. I admit that I was very skeptical at first and wanted to test it myself. The only application I wouldn't recommend it for is in winter with heavy gloves, it is hard to release. If you just have a light pair no problem though.

Checks all the boxes

By

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Black Diamond Rocklock Screwgate Carabiner - Bronze:

My main criteria for carabiners are that they give me no issues, and have a smooth feel to them -- set and forget it. This Rocklock checks off all the boxes for me, so it stays in the bag.

Excellent Twistlock

By

Comments about Black Diamond Rocklock Screwgate Carabiner - Bronze:

This is my favorite big pear biner. Have several of both twistlock and screwlock. Have used them for anchors, rappels, ascends. Can also make a great handle with a 3 - 1 haul when attached to a friction knot to help pull on a wet rope. Recently, while rappelling a waterfall, it began to rain, things got a little extreme. On the ascend out, had 2 different brands of tri-lock biners stick open because of fine sand and water. 4 of us had to avoid those and use twistlocks. They would self-clean if we just snapped the gates a few times, and they never stuck open. Gate spring also seems stronger then some brands. May not be the prettiest or most expensive biner, but they worked when others were sticking. Serious mud, sand, water, rain, didn't keep them from their job - to snap shut, every time. Thanks BD, well thought out piece of gear.

I love the autolock!

By

from BV Colorado

Comments about Black Diamond Rocklock Screwgate Carabiner - Bronze:

I use it for my belay device and just give a squeeze check and then forget about it. Also for anchors. Screwgates can creep, the autolock doesn't. Last until I wear through the metal on the biner due to a ton of use. Solid.
