Alps Outdoorz Traverse X 48 L Extreme Pack(1409108)
Alps Outdoorz Traverse X 48 L Extreme Pack - The Traverse X starts out as your go to daypack for backcountry hunts with capabilities to carry everything from your expensive glass to your trusty side arm and rifle or bow, and then it ends up a meat hauling solution for the spoils of a successful hunt. It accomplishes these mission specific tasks by carrying features that cater to the western hunter.
Alps Outdoorz Traverse X Extreme Pack - Wing pockets serve as both fleece-lined storage for a spotting scope and as part of the lashing system for hauling out meat. The stow away meat shelf is the other hidden component to the Traverse X that transforms and lets the pack live up to its reputation allowing weight to be added and carried securely and comfortably. The combination of Lycra shoulder straps, a molded foam back panel, and padded waist belt along with load lifters and anti sway straps makes this very capable pack a necessity for the 1 or 2 night stay in the backcountry. This pack is made for a body that has about a 36"+ waist and a longer torso, maybe for a slender guy of 6'5" or a rounder shorter guy. I'm 5'10" 175lb and the waist belt is half way down my butt, adjusted shoulder pads to lift it but they were so tight I could hardly wear it. It completely locked my hips in to the point I couldn't walk up a steep incline. Finally I took it off and wrapped the waist belt around the back of the pack and clipped it backwards, didn't use them at all.
I used it elk hunting in North Idaho this last weekend and I wish I could have left it in the woods. They really need a sizing chart for this pack! My water hose didn't fit through the opening. Oh- and lastly, the frame is so tall that it gets snagged on branches and makes it hard to shoulder a rifle. It's also noisy walking through trees. It was NOT designed by a hunter I can assure you. It honestly felt like I was wearing a pack-board from 1975. Very hard to walk with and made the day exhausting. I dislike this pack very much and will be selling it on CL. Wish I could return it!
I have had this pack for the past 3 years. It took a little bit getting use to and breaking in, but it's now hauled out 4 deer, quartered out. I pushed it to the max last year and packed out 88 pounds of meat off my deer in one haul. It held the weight like a champ. Buckles are all in good condition, zippers and no fraying of the stitching. Good day pack and will carry up to 50 pounds comfortably
Nice pack. I'm 5'6, 180 and the pack fits like a hiking backpack. The weight is distributed on my hips and shoulders. Lots of pockets. The side pockets have a soft fabric to protect scopes. Lots of ways to lash meat or gear to the outside of it. Very well constructed.
